 Frequently asked questions

  • Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a tax which is not widely understood. When paying Stamp Duty, many people refer to their solicitors to find out how much Stamp Duty they owe.

The solicitor will in turn refer to HMRC’s very own Stamp Duty Calculator to find the amount owed, which is very often incorrect as it does not take into account factors such as multiple dwellings relief and property in commercial use.

There are over 40 reliefs and exemptions of Stamp Duty, many of which are often missed by solicitors and conveyancers.

HMRC’s Stamp Duty Calculator is – by their own admission – merely a ‘guide’ on how much you should have to pay.

  • HMRC won’t accept stamp duty rebate claims for property purchases that took place more than 4 years ago.

  • In order to initiate the process we first require documents about your property, the sale and the amount of Stamp Duty you paid. When we have received all this documentation, we can then begin to build your case and submit the request to HMRC on your behalf.

  • We operate on a ‘No Win No Fee’ basis.

In the case of a successful claim, our service charge is 20% of the total rebate and interest received.
